History And Process

Drycleaning was discovered by Jean-Baptiste Jolly in 1825 who accidentally knocked over a lamp, spilling spirits of turpentine onto the tablecloth. Noticing that when the oil evaporated the area of the cloth was cleaner, Jolly decided to exploit his discovery by partnering with his son-in-law in the dry cleaning business. And so began the business of dry cleaning.

Process
What Does It Involve?
Stage 1 – Pre-treatment
There’s more to drycleaning than just machine feeding and light pressing work. Before cleaning any garments, they are first thoroughly inspected for any stains, tears, or missing buttons. Some heavily stained garments may go through a stain removal process prior to cleaning to aid in better soil and stain removal.

Stage 2 – Drycleaning
The clothes are then put into a machine and cleaned with special solvents. All of the solvents used at Pearls are environmentally friendly .

Stage 3 – Post Spotting
After the drycleaning stage, every garment is checked to ensure all stains have been removed.

Stage 4 – Finishing
This includes pressing, folding, packaging and other finishing touches and then your clothes are ready for collection.
